Typography is an important part of the Hedley Studios visual identity. We aim to balance the world of luxury with a refined contemporary editorial approach.

Our brand typefaces have been chosen for their flexibility and accessibility, as well as their refined beauty. The following pages outline how we use our typography but further reference can be found in elements throughout these guidelines.

Primary typeface

Larken is our primary typeface. Designed by Ellen Luff, the contemporary style reflects Hedley’s forward looking approach. Larken is a flexible typeface and can therefore be styled in a variety of different ways to create strong hierarchy and different tones of voice.

Supporting typeface

Our supporting typeface is Adieu, created by Good Type Foundry. Inspired by high speed, this extended typeface creates a seamless look with our primary typeface, for a balanced contrast that mirrors the classic editorial approach we see in luxury print.

Weights

We have chosen our brand typefaces for their flexibility and use each in varied weights. The weights listed below are the only styles we use, so avoid adding any alternatives into your designs.

STYLING

Inspired by classic editorial design, our type styling uses varied sizes, weights and formats to create tone and beautiful composition. Always ensure there is a purposeful difference between type sizes and that there is a clear hierarchy reflecting the flow of the copywriting. Use the below as guidance and other elements within these guidelines.

Testing type

Select a type field to test out individual typefaces of our type family. Contact the Hedley Studios marketing team for access to the font library and always ensure you have the correct font license.

Principles

This is a guide that outlines general typesetting principles. Use them as a reference any time our typefaces are used.
